SnapSlip · Effective 27 March 2026 · Last updated 4 April 2026

SnapSlip (“we”, “us”) provides a mobile application and related online services that help you scan receipts, track spending, set budgets, and use optional AI-assisted insights. This policy describes how we handle personal information when you use SnapSlip.

1. Who this applies to

This policy applies to visitors of snapslip.app, users of the SnapSlip mobile app, and anyone who creates an account or otherwise uses our services.

2. Information we collect

Account and profile. When you register, we collect your email address, a password (stored using one-way hashing, not plain text), and optionally your name. We use this to authenticate you and manage your account.

Receipt and spending data. When you upload receipt images, we store those images (or secure references to them), text extracted by OCR, merchant names, dates, totals, currencies, line items, categories you assign, and related metadata needed to run the app (for example processing status).

Budgets and analytics. We store budgets, limits, and derived summaries used for charts and alerts in the product.

Device and app settings. We may store a push-notification token so we can send alerts you opt into. We may store a preference that indicates whether you have enabled app unlocking with device biometrics (for example Face ID or fingerprint). Biometric data itself stays on your device and is processed by your phone’s operating system, not sent to our servers.

Technical data. Like any online service, our servers and infrastructure may record standard technical information such as IP address, approximate timestamps, and request metadata for security, reliability, and abuse prevention.

3. How we use your information

4. AI features and third-party processors (OpenAI)

If you use the in-app AI assistant, you consent to us sending a text summary of your recent spending data to OpenAI (OpenAI, L.L.C. and its affiliates) so that OpenAI’s services can generate a reply to your question. That summary typically includes structured receipt and spending information for roughly the last 90 days (for example line items, amounts, categories, dates, and merchants), together with the question you type. Data is sent only when you submit a question in the assistant, not continuously in the background.

OpenAI’s handling of data submitted through its API is described in OpenAI’s own documentation, terms, and policies. Their usage policies are published here: https://openai.com/policies/usage-policies/. We do not sell your personal information to OpenAI; OpenAI acts as a processor to provide the AI response you requested.

You can avoid sending data to OpenAI by not opening or using the AI assistant in the app. The rest of SnapSlip works without it.

5. Storage, hosting, and security

Your information is stored on servers and storage systems we operate or contract with (including databases and object storage for receipt images). We use industry-standard safeguards appropriate to the service, including encryption in transit (HTTPS) for app/API traffic and access controls on our side. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure; we work to protect your data commensurate with the risk.

6. Retention and deletion

We keep your information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. You may request deletion of your account or specific data by contacting us (see below). Some information may remain in backups for a limited period before aging out.

7. Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with service providers who help us run the product (hosting, email, analytics, or AI as described above), when required by law, or to protect rights, safety, and security.

8. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete personal information, or to object to certain processing. To exercise those rights, contact us at the email below. We may verify your request before acting.

9. Children

SnapSlip is not intended for children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your region). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

10. International users

Our servers may be located outside your country. By using SnapSlip, you understand that your information may be processed in those locations, where privacy laws may differ from your home jurisdiction.

11. Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the revised version on this page and adjust the “Last updated” date. For material changes, we may also notify you in the app or by email where appropriate.
